Associate – Christian Education and Pastoral Care

This busy suburban congregation of around 500 in a parish of over 11,000 is looking for a full-time Associate for Christian Education and Pastoral Care to help co-ordinate and develop existing and new initiatives in these areas of our church’s life.

Job specification:

Morningside Parish Church seek to appoint a Full time Associate to co-ordinate and develop existing and new initiatives in relation to –

  • Developing a Christian Education strategy to meet the varied needs of the congregation and parish including
    • Co-ordination and hands on participation in the provision of Christian education to children
    • Co-ordination of the provision of crèche facilities
    • Identifying short term learning programmes of relevance and interest to a variety of age groups
    • Liaising with existing youth organisations
  • Developing a pastoral care strategy to meet the varied needs of the congregation and parish including
    • Pastoral visitation in general and in particular visitation and befriending of the house bound and elderly and young families including
    • Working with the existing team of pastoral visitors to the housebound
    • Liaising with elders in their district visitations
    • Being involved with 2 well established Parent & Toddler groups and a weekly coffee morning which attracts a more “mature” attendance
    • Visiting families new to the congregation
  • Participating in Sunday worship and congregational events

Applicants should have –

  • Christian commitment
  • Professional qualifications/experience in relevant disciplines e.g. theology/social work /education
  • An enthusiastic and empathetic approach
  • A willingness to be a team player
  • Good communication skills
  • PVG clearance

This is a 3 year appointment, including a 6 month probation.

The salary is based on the Church of Scotland Minimum Stipend for Ministry – currently around £26,380
