Choral Scholarships available at Morningside Parish Church

We are hoping to restart the choir at some point in the next weeks and would like to begin by advertising our Choral Scholarships. The scholarships offered are for any voice, Soprano, Alto, Tenor or Bass, and tenable for the period November 2021 to June 2022. They are open to anyone of whatever age. The scholarships are currently worth £1,000 each per session, payable monthly in arrears. Scholars are expected to attend the weekly Sunday morning service at 10.30am (rehearsal at 9.15am), the monthly “note learning” rehearsal (normally 7.45pm to 9.00pm on the first Thursday of the month), and occasional extra services. The scheme allows for six Sundays “off” per session, although it is expected that scholars will arrange competent deputies to cover these and to attend the relevant Thursday rehearsals; however, attendance at the annual Lessons & Carols Service (normally the morning of the Sunday next before Christmas) and that on Easter Sunday morning, together with the rehearsals associated with these expected. There is plenty of scope for solo work, if desired.

Please apply in writing as soon as possible to the Organist, Morley Whitehead at Morningside Parish Church Office, 2 Cluny Gardens, Edinburgh EH10 6BQ or email, office@morningsideparishchurch.org.uk giving brief details of qualifications and experience, and the names and addresses of two referees, one musical, one personal.  Upon receipt of an application, candidates will be offered a time on Saturday 16th October 2021 at which to attend for audition. (Other times could be arranged if really necessary.)  They should bring with them two contrasted prepared pieces (two copies please) and will be asked to sight-sing a simple unaccompanied motet.
