Thomas Chalmers talk, Wednesday 25th September, 3.15pm, Braid Hall

Dr Browning will reprise his talk about Thomas Chalmers, “Chief Scottish man”.

Chalmers was an influential C19th Church of Scotland minister who was one of the chief movers behind the Disruption of the Church of Scotland in 1843 and the formation of the Free Church of Scotland. Latterly he lived in Churchill and was a member of the original Morningside Parish Church. He is buried in the Grange Cemetery. Chalmers’ career saw him ministering in different parts of the country, as well as holding several professorial roles at St Andrews and Edinburgh Universities. He was Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, and the first Moderator of the Free Church of Scotland.
